phi mu
by: FreshmeatAs an incoming freshman girl who wants to rush, i was wondering what people thought of Phi Mu? Are they well liked? I’m not looking to be in a top tier, and that doesn’t matter to me. I know i have to “trust the process” but i also want to have a good read on some houses too.

I feel like a lot of people don’t have a strong opinion on phi mu. They are all nice girls who have a strong sisterhood. Some seem to believe that they could be moving down in ranks but still a solid lower middle house. Like every house some girls like to party some would prefer to stay in. Overall, as a house they are intelligent and sweet. You really can’t go wrong with them. I’m not in phi mu- I’m in another house but I really liked them during recruitment and have friends in there.

That’s fine that you want to know about some houses but I’m just letting you know, with IU being as big of a Greek school as it is there’s no way you can get to know a house off of a website. Freshman girls don’t even know the vibe of even one house before starting rush unless they have a good friend/older sister in it and have gone numerous times. Phi Mu (and all the other houses) are great houses, but you want get a true feel for it until rush and really until 16-9 party if you make it. You may fall in love with a top tier house for all you know. But no one ever knows what a house is like until they’re in rush and meeting numerous girls. Enjoy your first semester without worrying about rush.

I have several close friends in phi mu and they’re overall more involved on campus and in academics. Tbh every house at IU is a solid choice at this point a few need to get their numbers up but I don’t see anyone having issues with that this coming year especially with an organized informal in the fall for sophomores and juniors. Pledge classes here are small for our school size bc of live in requirements so all houses have many quality women which makes it easy for virtually anyone to fit into any house. Good luck with rush !!
