letters of recommendation

So I've got some friends who are actives at another school and I was wondering if it is either frowned upon or helpful for them to send over a letter of rec before rush starts this weekend.

I had a letter of rec for a house my friend is in at another school and they kept me for a round, I'm not sure if it was the letter or the girls liked me, it was APhi, idk about how much they care though tbh
