everyone knows
by: OKSo everyone knows this school is swarming with suburban Chicago kids who couldn't get into U. of I and suburban Milwaukee kids who couldn't get into UW. So which houses do those girls pledge? I have heard that some houses are known for being cliquey because of a preponderance of Chicago-area girls and I just wonder if a small-town Indiana girl like me will have a chance if I decide to go through rush. I will be valedictorian of my class, was Youth Council president, have (and likely will again) compete in track at the state level and am a concert pianist. HOWEVER, my school doesn't even have AP classes much less weighted grades. So what do you think? Should I bother going through rush?

OP here. Sadly, you all are going to have to pick on someone else. Ohio State called yesterday and offered an additional scholarship that will cover my room and board, too. So even though I'm a mentally ill loser, I'll be off to Columbus in fall. I understand that you all just want to feel better about yourselves for being in Nowheresville, Indiana, but why does that involve such nastiness? Being from a small town, I really thought IU would be a good place for me. Then the cruel comments kicked me to the curb. Best of luck to you all, because you're going to need it.

I couldn't not respond to this post after reading what OP said. I'm from a suburb of Chicago and was accepted into the University of Illinois. U of I and IU were the final two schools I was deciding between. When it came down to it, I got direct admit into my program here, whereas U of I doesn't offer direct admit to the equivalent program there. Also, in-state tuition hardly helps out at all financially in Illinois. Frankly, I find the U of I campus to be unattractive especially when compared to IU's amazing campus. And, finally, so many people from my high school were attending U of I and I wanted something different. Please think before you speak on behalf of such a large group of people who you know nothing about. Not all of us came here because we "weren't smart enough" to get into our respective state schools.

I am one of the women who commented on your original post and I am from Cincinnati so kudos to becoming a buckeye. I have lots of friends there and visit often. Their recruitment is a cake walk so you will have no trouble Some things remain unanswered though such as why the passive aggressive superior attitude and why worry about grades when you are valedictorian? See you in the big ten
