everyone knows
by: OKSo everyone knows this school is swarming with suburban Chicago kids who couldn't get into U. of I and suburban Milwaukee kids who couldn't get into UW. So which houses do those girls pledge? I have heard that some houses are known for being cliquey because of a preponderance of Chicago-area girls and I just wonder if a small-town Indiana girl like me will have a chance if I decide to go through rush. I will be valedictorian of my class, was Youth Council president, have (and likely will again) compete in track at the state level and am a concert pianist. HOWEVER, my school doesn't even have AP classes much less weighted grades. So what do you think? Should I bother going through rush?

Many of my friends went to Milwaukee and they do call it UW-Milwaukee.... I didn't bother with UW but I did apply and get into U of I, U of Mich- Ann arbor as well as other larger schools. It's really not that bad but Indiana is by far the easiest to get into. Honestly if you're coming into the system with some twisted position you are better than others, A) College will be a nice shock to your system B) Stay out of the Greek system because it's based on the love and support of others. You can't go around thinking you're better than your sisters. You will be labeled fake immediately

I find that hard to believe because IU tied U. of Iowa for the top out-of-state school for kids in my graduating class. Like 25 kids from my school alone go here, and the same is true for lots of other suburban Milwaukee school districts.

I'm from suburban Milwaukee and know at least a dozen others from my dorm who also are. If you don't know anyone from Milwaukee you need to get out more! C'mon. I'll buy you a beer!

Sounds like you have plenty of good choices. i would pick one of them and not IU. This campus, especially our Greek system is full of the biggest blowhards you will even meet. You will be hard-pressed to meet Greeks who thinks they are so spectacularly better than everyone else. I came to IU because of a scholarship too and I am in Greek life. There are things that I love about IU - but if i had to do it again, i would go somewhere else, somewhere kinder, more inclusive and less status-conscious. Live and let live.

I was accepted at Miami of Ohio as well as IU. I opted not to go to Miami of Ohio because it's not that great a school and the people are almost entirely white, superficial and really full of themselves. Sadly, I came here instead and found many of the same attitudes. However, I have made wonderful and true friendships in my sorority and my close group of friends is the best thing about this place. If it weren't for my sisters, I would be out of here.

Okay. I am a direct admit Kelly kid Who went too fast and knows how to spell judgemental. FYI. Read the first line. She is saying the school we attend is full of kids who couldn't get into other schools. As a proud out of state Hoosier in an sorortiy that I love, I DO take it personal and find it insulting and then to further state how great of a person she is and then basically have a later post say that bc of her ACT score she got a full tuition ride is just rude. Btw. My act is the same and I know plenty of students who had that act score that go to this school too. So, yes, I find her original post as a slam against IU and yes I also have enough friends in my house to make sure a girl doesn't get in. In our house there are definitely ways to keep girls out! Read her post bc she just slammed your school too Sorry, have to study and then headed to party. Too busy to reread for spelling errors on a site such as this

This girl seems to be an English major with a huge chip on her shoulder. Let her vent or give her directions to student health services. Also. Do you think she was rejected at Illinois and Wisconsin. Her hostility is just plain weird. Call home. They will listen

If you cannot detect the original posters holier than thou attitude, you need to take a course about reading between the lines. She is pompous, puts down IU and is shameless in self promotion. Sorry if you don't see it If someone comes with a legitimate question, I believe the students would love to answer it. This girl did not

The other thing is she poses her original question with a veil of what about my grades when she also states that she is valedictorian. Wtf. If she truly was the valedictorian she certainly doesn't have to worry about grades. I suspect a poser but you are too dense to see it

I call B.S. There isn't a person in the world who would call University of Wisconsin-Madison UWM. That is reserved exclusively for University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. And just about anyone who applies to the REAL UWM gets in. So, nice try. But it didn't happen.
