what happened

Really there isn’t one. The student body at UT has just really changed. Girls who studied hard enough to get into UT are often not super social. Nothing wrong with that, just different social scenes. Honestly the “lower” chapters probably get along with general student body better than top ones.

I think DG got caught up in a few bad PCs at one point. That’s how it starts.
then to save face, they honed in on the smart girls which results in a ton more goofy girls who just aren’t very hot overall.
There’s nothing at all wrong with DG but they definitely have a personality that draws in a certain type a girl and to be honest, they’re just less cool these days.

THIS. They are definitely happy with their sisterhood but limited on the lookers. That may not be a bad thing.

DG was on the way up until 2013, they had a party and a lot of girls came home drunk, one passed out on the lawn.The President got removed and they were on social probation 2013-2014. That did hurt, objectively they are still decent more selective than AXD, KD or ADPi well below big six, somewhat below Alpha Phi or AXO although I think both of those sororities are overhyped.

I think the OP is talking about the bigger picture, like from long ago. DG was right below ADPi, which was right below big 6.
The real question is, what happened to ADPi? That's was the biggest move down and don't blame it on aPhi's rise. APhi rising doesn't explain why ADPi is right next to AXD while DG is hanging closer to KD. It's not like the bottom dropping out on SDT or DPhiE leaving would impact ADPi. And btw, I'll just say that no matter the rankings, all of the UT groups have great girls and tons of sorority fun. It's just that someone's gotta be last in a world that ranks

A friend of mine had ADPi left and she decided to drop. Big mistake. She’s regretting it. They have a lot of fun and their house is beautiful

I will also add that having any thing left is actually a good thing because every single house really does have great girls in it. I can show you pictures of beautiful KD’s and ADPis and DGs. And even SDT is super cute these days.
