She’s a DG if that tells you anything.

Anyone with half a brain can figure out that UT sorority rush is tough. Look over UT stuff on Greek rank and Greekchat and you’ll figure it out.

What do you think it means? DG is getting weaker as a chapter, almost running neck and neck with KD now.

I think it's stupid people are paying to use her. She apparently gets girls in by personal connections which I feel is TOTALLY UNFAIR. My roommate used her and got into PiPhi by introducing her to the girls in the chapter. After rush I found out that two other girls I know in Hardin used her too and got I think Chi O and Theta? Meanwhile, I had NO idea such a thing even existed, and I'm from a big city. I ended up with a house I'll not mention bc I don't want to be identified (dropped). It's kinda BS you can pay someone to get you into the big 6. NO ONE mentions it before rush that everyone is using this person/ whoever else does this and then once they get a house it's like "oh, well I had a coach, you didn't know?" I think it's ridiculous to even have to hire a coach in the first place.

To "UNFAIR" - I'm sorry you had a bad experience during rush, but I don't see what's so wrong about paying for personal connections or whatever help you can get. I'd pay anything to bypass some of the stress of rush - especially if everyone else is?

Honest but going to sound mean....

You don’t need a coach. Connections are the most important things to get into Big six. A coach can’t provide that.

Second most important thing are your social skills and attitude. Again, that takes years to create....a coach can’t do that either.

Both of those two things are determined by where you grew up and who you ran around with. Big camps often create the above two also.

There are so many rumors about PKT specifically and big six in general that no one in lower tier chapters is going to know the truth for getting into those IMO. Not to be cruel but very little real
Overlap.

By: Yes
by: Nah

There is some overlap......mainly through majors etc though or high school friends. Girls you are talking about who pledged as sophomores are different though....Rush experience is totally different for sophomores. There really isn’t much overlap if we are talking freshmen who are the girls who will end up running those chapters and doing most of the rushing. Most chapters are running with the girls in their chapters the most or for sure in their tier. It is just who they run into at functions. I mean if you go to an SAE or Fiji formal, you see PKT almost exclusively. If you go to Sig Ep you see tons of Zetas and some of the rest of big six also. If you go to a Phi Psi event you see lower tiers and some Tri Delts. Doesn’t mean there aren’t a couple of exceptions, but they are few and far between. Everyone has more fun at events where they know tons of people!

Agree about Katy etc.....but they are pulling in the girls from their high schools that they knew.....connections just not the Memorial, Highland Park connections.

I stand by two most important things: Connections and social skills....not sure a coach can help with connections but maybe with small talk and poise if she is good at it.

Go places, meet lots of new people and practice small talk. It is just a skill and anyone can get better at it.

I have used Hiking in Heels. She was an incredible resource to myself and my daughter and would 100% recommend. My daughter received a bid from Theta this last fall and I’m certain she played an instrumental role.

There’s so much young ladies are expected to prepare and complete prior to recruitment these days and she provided such valuable insights none of the other Greek parents seemed to be aware of (or shared with us). She also had a ton of personal connections to the Greek members, which in our opinion was very helpful.

Just submitted my info. The girl on the phone said that applications are approved within 24 hours, FYI. What else are people doing right now to get ready in the meantime? Should I be following all the sororities on instagram (I know girls in the houses, so I feel like it wouldn't be weird) or what's the appropriate etiquette for that?

If paying an extra $1500 so your daughter gets to wear a certain group of letters on her shirt everyday is worth it, go for it. Can’t spoon feed your daughter her whole life

By: Lol
by: But it is

It is definitely worth it. And someone who phrases it as you do "wearing a certain group of letters on her shirt everyday" clearly doesn't have a grasp on how valuable a Texas Theta's connections are in the real world. Not just college. But long after. No way to explain its value by $1500 is honestly a bargain for the doors this opens.

Big 6 is a thing, but not as much as it used to be. I don't think they have dropped, I think the others have risen. Unless you are a PKT quadruple legacy, I don't see why you would care if you didn't get PKT. APhi, AXO, and DG are fabulous too. AXiD is definitely on the rise. KD and ADPi have precious girls and are happy with their houses. Ok, let's be honest. I get that a certain type of girl is going to be DEVASTATED if they don't get PKT. But you can't tell me they won't have a similar experience in AXO and APhi, particularly. When I hear Rush Coach I think people are shooting for PKT or Big 6 and anything outside that is a disappointment. That is ludicrous. I just don't think it is that big of a deal and if it is, well you deserve what you get. I didn't go into recruitment thinking "Oh My GOD! Big 6 or I quit!" I am in a Big 6, but I could have been happy in about 5 or 6 different houses, some out side Big 6. This is 2019. Rush Coach sounds so 1965.

I don’t know anyone who used a rush coach and I am in big six. Maybe someone I know did and hasn’t mentioned it but wouldn’t be surprised if not. I am sure you might get something from it but it is a lot of money for a couple of tips. Maybe it is great....no idea

Just be careful.....I feel like rush Coach is advertising on here.

The only person who would hire a rush coach is someone without connections who is trying to go PKT. PKT takes it's small share of outsiders but a rush coach won't help with that.

Honestly, all of the houses are great and you don't have to have a rush coach to get a bid from one of them.

Have you seen AXD and ADPi? Beautiful, smart girls. KD and DG? Different personality but same, wonderful girls. Alpha Chi is so so pretty and APhi is up there knocking on the Big 6 door.

You will get a terrific house without a rush coach.

by: Okay I'll say it

Yes, 100% agree that you are absolutely going to get a fabulous four-year experience at UT in any one of those groups.

And then you leave UT.

The other groups' alum bases are not the same. Their events are not the same. Their connections to the social fabric of cities and fundraising and philanthropic charities and insider circles are NOT. THE. SAME.

And it's not that I don't admire those chapters for assessing the landscape and figuring out what to do to up their game. It's impressive. But there is simply no substitute for the ties that bind the original Big 6 in life after college. Maybe there will be eventually. But it does not yet exist.

The only alarm groups that are strong our PKT.

ChiO, Zeta, DDD,, alpha Phi, they may all be in the Junior League but they don’t have the alum events in the larger Texas cities like PKT.

"The other groups' alum bases are not the same. Their events are not the same. Their connections to the social fabric of cities and fundraising and philanthropic charities and insider circles are NOT. THE. SAME."

LOLLLL. That is ridiculous. Any alum group from a large, national sorority at UT has TONS of connections when it comes to alumnae. Like whoever is trolling this is insane. Really? A sorority chapter with THOUSANDS of alumnae in a big city isn't going to have a strong alumnae presence, have incredible connections and alum events, and participate in the SAME fundraising and philanthropic charities and "insider circles"? Get over yourself.

ADPi's is HUGE. So is Tri Delt's (um hello - look at all they're doing for St. Jude's). AXO has TONS of fun alumnae events in each city it's in. All of these alums RUN various philanthropic orgs and sit on boards. All of them have the exclusive country club memberships and are in charge of these proclaimed "inner circle" events. Like, name ONE that's exclusively PKT. You can't? Oh - that's because. it. doesn't. exist. Just LOL.

Or were you one of the "big 6" alums so desperate to preserve a reputation (maybe one of the moms that got caught peeking in the window of a different sorority during recruitment a few years ago and escorted off the premises?) #awkward

Please. No one is going to be in the inner circle of anything unless they donate BIG $$$ to the cause. If you aren't one of those big donors then forget it. No set of Greek letters will open doors for you; it's all about who has the money and is generous with it.

Maybe everyone's right. It's got to be more than 1 person if a ton of people are legitimately using the company. Let's keep in mind it could be several girls. Like a theta/dg or tri-delt/theta that partnered up - especially since it's so many schools.

There are some things she has stated on her website that are simply not true but, she is using them for scare tactics. Like, yeah, cross cutting used to be a thing but that issue was handled with Quota Additions so it doesn't happen any more. But she still puts that out there like it could happen to you and you need her to tell you what to do.

By: dishonest
by: Director of Recruitment

Ok, respectfully, that's just not accurate and you shouldn't be confusing PNMs with that.

"Quota additions" do NOT mean everyone signed up for recruitment receives a bid. It means that everyone that maximizes their options on preference round receives a bid. If I'm speaking honestly, all this does is add girls on to new member classes of lower tier houses they didn't want anyway. (But if they do want A house and aren't picky at all - sure, I suppose that's a good thing for them.)

For example, if a PNM goes through recruitment and gets released (dropped) from every house prior to say, Philanthropy or Sisterhood Round, there is no coming back. Once you've been released from recruitment, your only options are snap bids / participation in the COB process (which - you guessed it - gets you right back to a lower-tier house. (Kappa's a few years ago was an exception and not the norm.)

It's really something Panhellenic should be working on - providing clear and concise language on their materials vs. getting PNM's hopes up that "there's a bid for everyone" at the end of this process. It's untrue and unfair for incoming PNMs to think it's that inclusive and be absolutely heartbroken.

Incoming PNMs - take recruitment seriously. Don't wait to the last minute to submit your Letters of Recommendation, register for recruitment, or reach out to any friends you may know in the houses.
