Help me understand a single preference
by: Choosy SuzyIf pref results in one house that is a good match and one that isn't, single preference seems to be the way to go. Since we can't refuse the invite, it's fine to go and be nice, maybe even meet a new potential friend. But, you can't not go even if you know that the house isn't right for you. So, single preference seems to be the way to go. However, it sounds like if you go single and aren't in the top of the list, you won't move up if some PNMs are pulled to other houses. It doesn't actually work like that, right? The bids go in order of house preference regardless of whether you have one or two houses, right?

Correct, it does not work like that, your ranking on the chapter's bid list is not affected by your SIP, it's the order of the chapter's ranked list combined with how you rank that chapter.
The algorithm starts at the top of the chapter's ranked bid list and matches with the pnm's who put them at number one. If you match with them before they reach quota then you get that bid. If they reach quota before they get to you and you have put them as SIP, you are out of the process and will not get a bid, but if you rank both your pref houses then the algorithm will then try to match you with your number two. If you don't match with them either before they hit quota, you will be placed as a Quota Addition with either one. If you have only one pref invitation and attend and put them on your card you will get that bid.

Three rounds and still feel that way. I went into rounds 2 and 3 with an open mind. I wanted as many choices as possible. I met a few nice girls, but just didn't feel the vibes. There are some things that were talked about in the presentations that made me think we weren't a good fit. I have nothing against the people I met, but I don't think it's the right place for me. If I get it back for pref, I'll be in trouble. I'd still continue to be nice and meet more people, but I don't think something would happen at the 4th round that would chance my mind. I feel bad b/c I think there are PNMs who maybe were dropped by that house and would still love a spot.
