cob as a sophomore

by: mich234

I'm a current sophomore and decided not to rush this year but was wondering what cob is like. I know I'm not a freshman but was just wondering if it would decrease my chances.

Not being a freshman would not decrease your chances, but the reestablishment of Theta this year makes it different.

Chapters can COB if they don't make Quota during formal recruitment or if they are under Chapter Total, which is reset right after Bid Matching. It's different this year because Theta is coming back, which could make Chapter Total and the timing of issuing COBs more restrictive in order to help them establish a first class.

You should definitely check out Theta because an establishing chapter always wants older girls.

For the other chapters, COB is up to them individually, if they are eligible. It isn't a secondary rush process organized by Panhellenic and there really aren't ever a whole lot of open spots. Chapters can publicly announce that they are offering bids or just do it on the DL, especially if they only have one or two to offer. Most COBs go to girls that chapters already know. You can fill out the Panhellenic interest form and see if you get contacted, but the best bet is to reach out to active members you know and tell them they are interested. Just try and see what happens. Good luck.

And also, for any pnm's going through recruitment right now who are considering dropping out to try for a COB at a 'better' house, FORGET IT. The sororities that drop you are not going to turn around and offer you a bid after rush, especially this year. STAY IN THE PROCESS and give the sororities that WANT you a second and third genuine look. Your best chance for a sorority bid is during formal recruitment.

So if you didn't get invited back to philanthropy, you can forget about COB? Is that the story?

Yep, exactly, especially this year.

Don't go chasing rainbows, focus on the houses you have. The 'lower' houses have gorgeous fun girls just like you and you can be in an amazing new member class for sisterhood and a great social life.

A set of letters will neither validate you nor diminish you, you'll still be you for all to see. You will look the same, weigh the same, behave the same, be viewed the same by others.
