this site is a travesty!

by: Ashamed Alumna

As an alumna of USC, a mother of a daughter who will be attending USC in the fall, and a proud lifelong member of Delta Gamma, I have to say that finding this site makes me feel ashamed. Several mothers mentioned it at our weekly book club last night and I have to admit that we laughed.

Still, reading the posts here, I am going to give my own opinion (one shared by several of my alumnae friends). If I am to be entirely honest, I must say: you won't be happy in a house that is beneath you. You won't be happy in a house that doesn't have women like you -- women from a similar background, with a similar pedigree. It's silly to pretend that you will be. Whether they want to admit it or not, you simply won't relate to people who are nothing like you. That was true when I was an undergrad 20 years ago, and it remains true today.

Don't settle in the name of panhellenic spirit. Go for the house that you know fits your beauty, brains, and personality.

Now it's become very clear. It's the parents who create these monsters. Good god, lady, your superiority complex is incredibly disturbing. Why you're spending your Friday night at a book club and not your husband is beyond me.

You have got to be a troll. If not, get a life and let your daughter live hers.

She IS living her own life. This post had nothing to do with my daughter. I have not said a single thing to her about joining a specific house. But seeing as she is a beautiful, intelligent young woman coming from a highly successful, loving family, she will no doubt go on to join one of the top three houses. That's simply the way the world works, darling!

That being said, of course she is born and bred to be a sister of the same house I was. I am very fortunate to still have several sorority sisters in my close friend group, and three of them also have daughters of various ages who are current USC students and DGs, so no doubt my daughter will likely be swayed in that direction (especially when one considers that she grew up with these lovely girls and has visited them at school twice now). As mothers we only want the best for our daughters, of course!
