your sorority rank will last as long as you are in school. it doesn't matter after 4 years... unless people have CRAZY parents like the ones you describe, who would actually JUDGE their children for not being in a "topl" house. that sounds preeeeetty stupid and i feel sorry that your mom and her friends would actually think different of you based on some silly hair-splitting popularity ranking, as you describe, because that's really sad.
the houses you mention are awesome. but getting into one won't make people think you're any prettier, nicer, smarter, etc. than you already are. you'll just get to wear their letters.

Actually, where I'm from, your sorority lasts forever. I completely get what "Why" is saying. My Mother still goes on weekend spa trips with her sisters, and she is 49! My 56 year old aunt is still very involved with her alumni club. They are not bad people, but their sorority seemed to define them and still does. I know lots of girls who would say the same thing about their Mother. Thank God I'm in a house that I love and my family thinks is wonderful. Yes, it's a top four house, and it's a good thing, because my family called me everyday for updates. So yeah, you wither get that mentality or you don't. Tons of girls here do, cause they are in the same boat I was in and good luck to you, 'Why' I hope it works out for you. Try not to get an ulcer between now and rush. :)

I can actually understand the family pressure thing--wasn't my case, but I could see how that would suck. But what if you were dropped from those houses? Wouldn't being a GDI be worse than...an Alpha Phi or ADPi? And if you found a girl you loved in...Tridelt, who you could see being your big, would you choose Theta (let's just say, because you said you're iffy on them) over that? All things considered. I know the Top 4 rush well so you will feel like you have a connection at any of those, so my question's pretty hypothetical, but let's just say you have an amazing connection with [Tridelt, etc.] would you pick that over a Top 4 you don't like?

I feel like I'm in the minority, since my parents supported me no matter what house I joined. I know for a fact my grandmother did not want me to join her house here at USC, and she's quite happy for me, since I'm happy in my house?a house she didn't particularly like at her school when was a Greek. Maybe it's because Greek life isn't huge where I'm from, I don't know, but it seems silly to join a house because people who aren't in the house want you to. You should join the house you want to join?you're the one who's going to be in it for the next four years.

agree with you and your rankings. although they shouldn't influence a girls decision during rush, rankings usually do.. but to make decisions based on what was popular fifty years ago? that just seems dumb. focus on the houses with girls you actually like during rush and if you really want to focus on popularity, then consider the houses that are popular NOW and have potential for the future, not what was cool during your grandmother or mother's college years. rankings are always changing and especially in recent years, they have changed a whole lot at sc. for instance, pi phi and gamma phi have moved down considerably and aren't what they used to be. kappa has gotten better and now competes with dg for the number one title. alpha phi has risen steadily and as a result made a huge jump in rankings. keep in mind that things have changed and still are changing so a sorority's status years ago shouldn't influence you

Sorry theta, the row and the girls rushing know that's not an accurate ranking. when will you learn? never, it seems.....you are wrong wrong wrong. The truth:

Kappa- always been a top house with gorgeous girls.

DG- Used to get Kappa leftovers. Still does at times.

Gammaphi- been a midddle to lower house for 40 years or so. no change.

Theta- Has dropped every year, at least the last three in a row and they are freaks about it. Not a highly sought after house.

Pi Phi- has only moved up or stayed the same as they have always been. Nothing envious haters can really do about that.

Aphi- still the red-headed stepchild nobody wants to play with. Literally.

How are theta and aphi the haters when they are the ones getting bashed and hated on the most? And theta/aphi are angry and aggressive? Hahaha since when? Why even bother spread lies on this site when girls who are rushing will know and see the truth the minute rush starts. And no, Pi Phi you are not fooling anyone. Self ranking everyday to stay at the number three spot while theta and aphi are bashed everyday... Way I be obvious
