From what I gathered, it’s not a new rule, it’s been around for a while, but this doesn’t make it any less ridiculous. According to the national Panhellenic organization, if we support any frat brothers during rush, go near the Village, help any boys rushing, go to just one frat party, or even visit our boyfriends during rush in the village we can suddenly be fined and this takes away the womanhood of our organization entirely. No logic. Something as simple as being in a frat house, talking to your frat friends, Supporting a Frats as a sweetheart, can literally get you in trouble and somehow takes away the value of our own womanhood and the womanhood of our organization. Most of the Panhellenic rules don’t make much sense and I really outdated.

i think the outrage is because even tho its been a rule forever its never really been enforced too harsh, and if it is it's usually just during formal recruitment. current panhel exec is going hard this year for literally just spring rush of all things which is dumb and try hard when its never been taken so seriously in the past

I think the outrage is also that this is one of many of the hundreds of ridiculous rules created by the national Panhellenic organization. These rules are outdated and stem from a misogynistic mindset and ideal of how women should present themselves, what it means to be a woman, and womanhood in general. We can’t control the national Panhellenic council rules, but our individual Panhellenic electives have absolutely every choice on how extreme they enforce these rules. This is the first time it’s been this heavily enforced, proving that our current Panhellenic electives don’t have our best interest in mind, can’t do critical thinking on the effects of these rules, and doesn’t have the backbone to make their own personal decisions.

It’s not just about this one rule. A conversation is being opened up about Panhellenic rules in general. It’s important we talk about it. Why are sorority events alcohol free but frats can have parties? Why do frats invite us to their events during sorority recruitment but we can’t even go into the village during their‘s? Why are our social media‘s and presentations strictly monitored but the fraternities can post whatever they want? It’s a bigger discussion about where these rules stem from, and what the effects they have on women are. It’s not as simple as one rule that we just got a deal with. We have the power to open these conversations and have our own Panhellenic group Participate in it.
