Top and bottom house hate
by: FratafI’m tired of seeing hate come down on SNU especially from either houses that aren’t rising as fast or top houses that are getting scared, boys just jealous af. Snu is rising and for a reason, top houses stop hating just because you realize you’re falling. Also sigs are overrated

Sigma Nu is one of the five or so houses that have withstood the test of time at Illinois. Always a small old-money house, they value brotherhood over popularity. They're the only house to have lost their charter for bad behavior (twice!), yet still maintain a constant presence for over a century. Finances never forced them to "over-recruit" and sacrifice quality for quantity. They never added onto their original Urbana mansion (built awful connecting dorms) as many others did. A strong and wealthy alumni network guides their "under the radar" success.

While you bring up some valid points I have to disagree with you on some things here. Scouts are telling me Snu has a 23 man pledge class which puts them in the middle of the pack, but we must take into account the fact that they had around 20 Spring Pledges. This indicates a quantity over quality approach. While they have been progressing recently, I feel like Snu will always have an inferiority complex to their next door neighbors ATO and will never really escape the “mid” tier.

Betas were the epitome of time-tested until they lost their charter & house. Acacia was among this group as well. I feel ATO's have faded hard and are desperate to maintain any semblance of relevancy. Sigs, Phi Delts, Delta Chi & Sigma Nu have survived the storms as well as whatever the "flavor of the day" top-tier are in any particular decade.

Couple of points:
1) I saw an almost identical post a few years ago. Who is this guy writing this?
2) Illinois is not a "destination school" for old money families, so please enough with that nonsense. Most of your kids come from small towns or suburbs like Orland Park or wherever - just like any typical frat. And at Illinois there is really no "rich guy frat" - even top houses are mostly guys from middle or upper-middle class families.
3) Most frats have at least some very successful alums, you have no monopoly on that.
4) you came thisclose to losing your house about 20 years ago.
It's a decent house, but relax.

If youre talking about actual old money, more like the small houses. Old money is turned off by agressive strivers who try to impress people. But to be clear, the majority of guys in all of the houses are not from actually wealthy families. More like middle and upper middle class. Honestly even quite a few low-income that know how to take care of business. Frats are not expensive like sororities, you can work part time and/or take an extra grand on your student loan and use it for bars, shirts, and road trips.
