Honest Sorority Recruitment Statement

by: HonestAbby

This post is for potential new members who are about to take part in recruitment. Here are a few things you should keep in mind.

1) I've been through recruitment. It can be a bit nerve wracking, and this site is probably NOT the place to take your impressions on what sorority is a good fit for you. The vast majority of ranks you read every week on here are based on someones version of looks or if they feel a certain sorority was willing to come to their house socially. Pay zero attention to it unless you are at the top, then enjoy the flattery. But that rank isn't anything legitimate = someones rank based on a group of girls they want to get in good with.

2) Yes there are sororities that have more of a vanity feel. The vast majority are sisterhoods though are great girls with common ideals. Once you join, you WILL make friends with a group of them. Honestly, there might even be some in the sorority you just joined that you might not even like. It's a lot like a real family. You like every cousin you have and they are your family, but you don't want to live with them because they are wild and out of control.

3) Sounds like a cliche, but the sorority you get on Bid Day is the one where you are supposed to be. THEY want you. They feel that you are a great fit for their sisterhood. Would you really want to be in a sorority that YOU want, but they don't really care for you?

4) This next statement will get a million thumbs down, but girls, there are nearly twice as many frats here at PSU than sisterhoods. They are dying for validation and attention, and want sororities to come out to their social events to boost their egos. ANY FRATERNITY AT PSU would be LUCKY to have ANY sorority to be associated with them. They won't admit it, but it's the honest truth.

I know (or have known) sisters from every chapter here at State. Great people are in every chapter (and of course, some more than others). Enjoy the process and DON'T GET STRESSED about it.

Enjoy the ride.

I somewhat agree, but any of the top 10ish frats will not welcome girls who aren’t in a top/upper mid sorority to their parties so that part isn’t true. Although I would like to think the guys here would be happy for any girls to show up to their parties, the guys here are obsessed with status and boosting their ego, so they want to feel like only the hottest sororities are at their parties. The mid frats are happy to welcome any girls usually.
