this past year rush

All sororities but one met quota for Spring rush. There was no shortage of girls participating in rush and, as usual, selection was competitive for all sororities.

The reason girls drop out of rush (last year and forever) is because they come into the process with a preconceived notion that they are "top tier" material. They may be classicly pretty, have a strong GPA, have been involved in lots of sports/activities in HS and were considered popular there. When they get to PSU, they forget that all the other pnms (potential new members) are also standouts or wouldn't even have gotten into Penn State-UP. There are almost 1500-1800 women registered and the sororities have very little time to get to know everyone. Therefore, cuts are harsh. Girls take it personally when the top 3 or 4 chapters drop them. Butt hurt and feeling rejected, they don't want to continue. Here are the facts, every single chapter offers a great experience in terms of social opportunities and leadership etc. Being in a mid or lower tier sorority is a wonderful opportunity. Don't let your ego get in the way of seeing the process through. It is extremely rare for any pnm to get cut from every chapter. And, at the end of the day, those "top" couple of chapters that you go into recruitment thinking you should want, because of ranks on this website, are no better than any of the others. They aren't smarter. They aren't prettier. They don't raise more money for THON. They simply social with different frats--not better guys--just different frats. End of story. Don't let that define your interest in Greek life when the cuts start. Good luck.
