considering rush in 2020

by: Kaylee

Are there any sororities that recruit based on personality or character any more? Or is it all really just about how you look and how much money you have? Serious answers, please.

You will have a much more values based process if you go through informal in the fall. Formal recruitment is so rushed and fast that it is near impossible for a chapter to get past a lot of the superficial criteria. Of course chapters are looking for strong academics and leadership but it doesn’t always have time to come out during parties that last 15 minutes. Good luck!

I have to agree that informal is a much better process. Formal rush is so structured and rushed, it's near impossible to get anything more than the most superficial impression of a PNM or a sorority. So many quality girls fall through the cracks during Formal.

I agree about the informal rush. However when I did informal, I rushed only a couple of houses and ended up leaving my sorority because it wasn’t a good fit. Try all houses so you have no regrets later

After the first few days of formal recruitment, rounds will gradually get longer (15, 20, 30, then 50 minutes for preference night). Image is only about 25% of what chapters will base you on, the rest is friendship and how well you will mesh with them! And money is 100% a forbidden topic during recruitment, so that should never be brought up in conversation by the sorority or be a deciding factor. It is totally easy to pick out who isn't showing their real personality versus who is being their genuine self and who will fit in with the chapters NOT only based on looks. Yes, there will always be the "superficial" aspect of it that will always play a part in a decision no matter what. And, informal may give you more time to seriously meet the girls and integrate personality and values into the process on a less "superficial" level, but formal recruitment) does do that as well as long as you show them your real self even though it is a little rushed! Ultimately though, you have to decide what you think will be best for you! Good luck :)
