how competitive is utk rush?

Sorority rush is all based on return rates from past years, just like at every school. The chapters that are highly desired must invite back fewer pnms each round. It doesn't matter how many pnms there are, some houses are just harder to get than others.
GPA is every house's first-round cut and that's why some houses will release you before they ever meet you in person. Resume and who you know is next.
Social media is important, especially if you don't know anyone in a sorority here.

Registration always opens first week in May. Get your resume and video ready to go before then and upload it before the end of the month. Same for recs, get them going in the spring and sent to the chapters before the end of May. Start following ALL the chapters by around March but make sure your media presence is cleaned up and on point before you do.

Return Rate for a chapter is how highly ranked they are by the pnm's after each round. Those percentages are used to determine how many pnm's each chapter can invite back each round. The higher the return rate for a chapter, the fewer pnm's they are allowed to invite back each round, and that makes them more competitive to get into.
But not many pnm's at all are cut from all houses, the system is not designed to do that. The system is designed to let pnm's know as early in the process as possible which chapters they have a real chance for a bid at. This is not just at UTK, it is the way rush works at every school.
Put everything on your resume. You want to show that you are active and involved and will contribute to your sorority while keeping your grades up.
