So Many Amazing Girls Turned Away

by: Observer

Congratulations to so many of you. You made it! But, Sorority goes beyond Greek letters, so keep that in mind this week. Even while celebrating your happiness. Because, today many, many girls are heartbroken & going without bids. Beautiful, outgoing, fun…all the things! Please recognize them, reach out, & be the friends these girls need.

They feel less-than. Unwanted. And it’s the start of their college experience. Imagine if it had happened to you.

I’m not sure that everyone has been notified. But many have.

I’m guessing that all the girls that were notified not to come to bidday were SIP? Anyone that went to two pref parties should have received a bid from either their first or second choice correct?

Putting both pref houses on your card = guaranteed bid to one of them.

Yes, it is sad for them today but if they had choices and dropped, or had two pref houses and SIP'd, they were NOT unwanted. Perspective. Those pnm's decided that an entire chapter of girls, or more than one chapter, were "less-than. Unwanted."

So many girls are about to miss out on an amazing experience because they thought they were too good for a house instead of just seeing things through.

Certainly. It can go both ways. But for some, the decision to SIP is rational. They’d be expected to join & pay dues with a sorority they didn’t click with. If they’re uncertain about that & don’t want to be blacklisted later, SIP is the right choice. Painful as the outcome may be.

And remember, it means they were cut/released by 8 out of 9 sororities. It’s understandable why they feel bad.

I don't agree with this at all. This is also a PNMs experience and if they didn't feel a fit just like a sorority did not feel a fit for a PNM, does it then mean the PNM should feel unwanted or less than by the sororities that did drop them? Or it simply wasn't a fit? It's a long term time and financial committment by all and it should feel like a fit otherwise it may be a very expensive risk. Some people might not have the means to take that risk - committ, hope then drop. And this type of thinking continues to perpetuate the idea that a chapter is unwanted or less than. And that girls not extended invites or bids are unwanted or less than. It works both ways.

yes, but on a campus with mc of 170 or more, you can find you people in any house. i loved the girls i met during rush, but my closest friends are in my mc and i met on bid day.

The fact is that there are nine houses at cu. Everyone keeps saying we should add more houses but this will never happen if not every single house is making quota.
