continuous open bidding

by: :-)

What sororities typically do COB? And what are the odds of getting a bid through cob as a sophomore? I know gphi gave out a lot during first semester, alpha xi and zta gave out some first semester, sk dz & dg gave some out second sem, and pi phi was going to second sem but they ended up not for some reason. But what about tri delt, aoii, kappa, and other sororities?

Seems like you came on here to ask and answer your own question.

The sororities who seem to COB are usually GPhi, DG, DZ, and Alpha Xi.

I haven’t heard/seen sororities like Tri Delta, AOPi, AXO, Zeta, ADPi, ChiO, KD etc COB.

As for being a sophomore I don’t think that would hurt your chances

What about being a sophomore AND having a 2.8-2.9 gpa?

That I’m not sure about. It would depend on the sorority and if you knew girls in that sorority

This was the only year DG has ever done cob, it changes year to year who participates

DG DZ Theta KKG SK GPHi and Zeta have done COB every year I’ve been here
I know for a fact this year DDD and Pi Phi both didn’t COB as well, for these two and Zeta I know they already know who they want and don’t hold events

It depends on who meets quota after initiation. So if a sorority didn’t give enough bids, or had a lot of new members drop they have to try to make that up with COB. Like my chapter gave out almost ten COBS my sophomore year, but last year didn’t give out any. It depends on the year!

It doesn't matter. It changes every year. Just because a house does COB during one semester doesn't mean they will do it again. It depends on the house total membership numbers, which change from semester to semester and also how panhellenic sets the max total membership numbers.

I got wind that Panhellenic is considering opening COB as early as tomorrow which is bid day. Has anyone heard anything about this?

They do every year with quota additions and it is common to hear of girls getting a bid the day after bid day

I figured that maybe they are watching return rates and anticipating based on what they are seeing that more girls are dropping early not getting who they wanted to pref, leaving more houses with available spots tomorrow.

Does anyone have more info on this? There's a rumor that this year was more screwed up than most! There may be more bids given after the fact than usual. It would be great if there was a good second chance for someone that got overlooked.

And honestly each house should receive a call from Panhellenic letting them know if they have spots available so they can call girls and ask them if they want. Auburn has some weird thing about calling them “snap bids” but if they end up opening COB tomorrow it’s the same thing. Alabama snaps all the time even the best houses, the beauty of that is no one really has to ever know she snapped or not bc she gets to participate in the bid day festivities. Seems like a better option to me to help some of these girls who are devastate and dropped!

"Snap bids" is an NPC term. Snaps are different from COB. People who receive snaps get them before bid day and often, many of their sisters don't know who was snapped.
