change my view: crawford is saving greek life
by: WombatWe all know the new policies the university is putting in place: an adviser has to live in frat houses, pledging can only be four weeks. Likely there is more to come. It sounds like bs, but did you ever consider that the biggest threat to Greek Life is the negative press we get whenever anyone messes up? With orgs not acting like children we might get the media off our asses and stupid, scared parents won’t be telling their kids not to rush, just as what obviously happened this year with low numbers. It’s a trade off, but one we will have to make. Greek Life started out as pretty tame and only adopted the “Animal House” style reputation in the middle of the last century. It’s not the biggest deal in the world if that subsides.

You don’t remember President Hodge. He was great. Crawford changed all our dining options to one-pay dining halls from declining balance restaurants. He doesn’t like that Miami is not a diverse school. His wife doesn’t like the general student student body, especially the men in fraternities. I don’t understand why he took the job here.

The Crawfords are just a symptom of the larger movement in American colleges towards pleasing helicopter parents. Their goal is to make our transition as graceful as possible and they’re not doing to poorly right now.

Are you a fraternity or sorority president? If not, you have no clue what you are talking about. The amount of changes they are trying to implement all at one time in unreasonable, especially with the fraternity housing. It's not just a live-in advisor. Look it up. The changes are already coming. Greek Life will be gone and transition into an entirely underground community, which just makes things so much more dangerous. If they wanted to do this correctly, they need to come out with these rules in stages rather than a massive tidal wave. Good luck everyone.

It’s no mystery. College Administrators are overwhelmingly liberal and libs hate Greeks. Although I’m not getting your 1in 20 years stat. There’s been at least one alcohol related death in a frat house every year for awhile now. The thing they never publicize is whether there are the equivalent number of deaths among the geeds.
