What's New - Hanover College - HC

I am an HC alum and I loved both the Chi Omegas and the Thetas. It breaks my heart to hear things have changed so much. We used to all have a big party every Spring Term called "Mockstock" with t-shirts with "Beta Theta Pi, FIJI, Chi Omega, and Kappa Alpha Theta" on the back. We were all a lot more similar than we thought. :)

Chi O is such an interesting group. A few pretty girls and a few not. Very active on campus. Very controlling. Things have to go there way or you’re in for quite the show. They are extremely emotional. Kind of have a feud in their house. I would rank them as either second or tied at number one with Phi Mu. These girls can be really mean at times. However if you get to know them well enough you realize that their not being mean, but that instead their just very tired and stressed. But that is the mentality. They have the highest GPA on campus and they are determined to maintain it. They don’t like Phi Mu and dislike Theta even more. They dress well and are always looking nice. Strong PanHell presence and an even stronger Student Senate presence. Don’t mess with Chi O, they are not an enemy you want to have.

So Phi Mu is honestly the best sorority on campus. They dominate. They have good grades although Chi O beat them out this past term. But they work hard and play hard. Hanging out with a Phi Mu is never boring. They will always surprise you, and treat you like a member of their family. The majority of them are very pretty. They can be quite emotional at times and they even have a group of guys that they selectively hang out with. Many of them love to have fun and go out. But that is not the key pillar of their sisterhood. They always have their friends back’s and will never betray them. Join Phi Mu if you want to be number one and have some fun too.

So Theta used to be number one. However they had been on top of the ladder for so long that they kind of stopped recruiting so in a mere two year window Phi Mu and Chi O recruited like crazy and bumped Theta into the third place spot. Now they are attempting to rebuild and it only seems as if they will succeed within a year or two. They recruited strongly this past year and came out with a good class. Their house is also considerably larger than the other three and is unique due to its architecture. Thetas are normally very free spirited at Hanover and do whatever they want not caring if people judge them. Great girls. Great house. Just needs some time to get back on top of the pyramid.

Oh Sig. Not much to talk about here. They are kind of looked down upon on campus. However they have a ton of really nice guys. Not really an athletic house. Dominated by either actors or math and science majors. If you want to go somewhere that doesn’t really know how to turn up you’ve come to the right house. Very stuck up and secretive. Constantly complaining about how poorly they get treated by the other fraternities. Around thirty guys in total. Making them the smallest after Beta withdrew from campus. I would say that if they don’t get their numbers up they could be in danger. However they have a strong alumni presence and a lot funding to keep them safe.

People will rarely debate Phi Delts strength on campus. Football and Lacrosse players dominate the house with a few Baseball players present as well. There are a few very active members who play large roles on campus. They have an IFC majority and members serving on Student Senate. And will only get stronger in the next few years. In the past they have been feared and have caused quite a few issues with the other fraternities. However they are cleaning up their act. Their house is massive and is by far the largest house on campus. Outside facilities include an outside patio, a fire pit, and a basketball court. Their dance floor is the largest on campus and they love to have fun. They only give a few bids out every year and are very selective, making sure that they only take in as many people as they need to fill the house after seniors graduate. Academics seems to be a growing interest in the fraternity and their overall GPA continues to rise. Besides a handful of guys they are generally welcoming and sincere.

As the closest Fraternity House to the freshmen dorms they always have a crowd. The house consists of a mix between Basketball and Baseball players with a few Track athletes as well. They like to throw parties and constantly turn up. Half of the house is very classy. The other half is not and can be very offensive. They seem to prey on freshmen, causing many people after their first year to rarely visit unless they are dating a brother. They compete with Phi Delt for Football players and have begun to grab a lot of offensive players in the past few years. They always try to dress Fratty and refer to their Fraternity as a Frat. Their house is also really packed as of recent years. So if you want to join a fraternity where you can live in house as a sophomore, don’t pick Fiji because you probably won’t get in house until junior or senior year.
