Largest SRAT philanthropies?

by: Pnm

Can someone list each house philanthropy and the $$ raised? I’d like to see the commitment they make.

Lol! This post is only meant to deflect from the GPA post. Notice 3/4 of the lowest GPAs are listed as the top fundraisers (in this post). ZTA, DDD, and Aphi are scrambling.

I simply asked about philanthropies since it’s a huge part from what I’ve been told the sororities focus on. All of these are great philanthropies. I was interested to see what they were and how much they raised. Apparently I hit a nerve.

Wtf is wrong with you? All of these chapters have awesome philanthropies and raise tons of money. Some of our houses have huge events and tons of campus participation. Don’t dismiss their efforts. I’m proud of these girls

I see this post as useful information so pnms can look ahead of rush at the philanthropies each house supports.
You sound salty and very bitter. You should be supportive of the great work ALL our chapters do.

This is the most ridiculous post to say some sororities raised $0 for the whole year!!! This is obviously ZTA posting this.

It’s directly off the FSL scorecard on the FSU website I just looked too. So if houses failed to report $$$ that’s on them to correct, however those large donations do correspond to some of the biggest philanthropic events

Dear Pnm,
Please understand that philanthropy is ONE aspect of sorority life, but it is not the reason that sororities exist. Friendship, a home away from home in a new and important phase of life, a space for young women to find opportunities to excel in academics and leadership, a fun social life, and just a place to finish growing up, is what being in a sorority is all about. Yes, they all have philanthropies, but sororities do not exist for the sole purpose of fundraising for their worthy beneficiaries. That is one aspect and one aspect only. If your passion is doing this work then that is wonderful and you are not alone, but don't judge the quality of any sorority by a dollars-raised metric. That's not the purpose.

Thank you for your thoughtful response however, almost every mission statement posted by every house SERVICE is listed as one of the primary purposes of joining.
I realize fully it’s only one component but it is one of the major ones. I asked about philanthropies to see which houses supported causes that resonated with my values. I was shocked at some of the catty responses targeting houses that made significant monetary contributions to their charities. Personally I feel this information is extremely important to review as it indicates the level of commitment and passion the members have to their charities. I also think it shows which houses aren’t just giving “lip service” to their mission statements. Perhaps for some “service” is not an important reason to join but for me I actually look at who they say they are and how their actions reflect it.

I love the thoughtfulness and the consideration you are giving in your selection process. Any house would be happy to have you. Best of luck

"SERVICE is listed as one of the primary purposes of joining"...no, it is not one of the 'purposes,' as you say, of joining and it is not in any of what you are calling 'mission statements'. I get what you are saying about what you read, and while raising funds for charity is a part of the membership's activities, and a participation requirement that is not optional, it is not why any of the sororities were founded, not the purpose for their existence now, or the purpose for joining. Supporting women is the one and only purpose of every single NPC sorority. That is a very necessary philanthropy in itself, and one that we need to desperately hold on to in these times. You might be interested that the designated charities of certain sororities change from time to time, and in fact there are some NPC sororities that only fundraise for their national foundations, which in turn contribute to different charitable causes. But XYZ sorority was never an offshoot to support ABC Charitable Foundation. Is it a good thing to do that benefits the members as well as a worthy cause? Yes it is that, but without the ACTUAL MISSION of supporting women, there is no sorority. If your expectations are that charitable work is the main purpose for joining, you are not quite on the page.

Well said. Sororities are about lifting up women. That's the purpose and charity is great but it's not the reason for joining.

I think you all are slicing and dicing her question way too much. Service is absolutely a part of sorority life which helps empower women to be leaders , create deeper bonds and do good. I get what she is asking. Most houses do have service/philanthropy listed along with other attributes in their mission statements.
It is a measurable non biased number you can look at to evaluate an organization. Of course there is more, but she’s not wrong to consider this at all.

Some of the sororities have the amount of money they raised for their philanthropy on their website, if your interested to take the time to look.
