Brotherhood quality

by: anonymous

I finished Wednesday and will graduate and leave Tallahassee. Don’t know when I’ll be back. I’ve had time the last few days and no where to go so I’ve been thinking about brotherhood, because the subject seems to have generated a lot of different opinions on this board.
Yes I am a brother (now alumni) in a fraternity at FSU, but not one of the ones I’m going to mention.
I don’t think anyone questions that Delta Tau Delta presented themselves as the ideal of fierce brotherhood. It was their passion and their brand. Great at sports and popular with sororities, but their whole theme was You have to earn your badge and it doesn’t come easy. They took it too far and at the wrong time in FSU history, but solid brotherhood.
Kappa Alpha is probably the ideal candidate for solid brotherhood. They rush one type of guy only, and those guys are instinctively drawn to KA. Rush is simple and easy for them. They live in their own world and they don’t care what you do or what you think.
Next, look at opposite ends of the spectrum: TKE vs Pike. Pike is the biggest and most prestigious; TKE is the smallest and unknown. Is the quality of brotherhood different? Yes. Is one better than the other? No. Like music, it depends on what you like.
TKE is deliberately small and rushes men who are like the brothers already in the chapter. They like each other and they want to take time to get to know each other and they like being TEKEs. Solid brotherhood.
Pike has 200 guys and a strong sense of brotherhood but it’s based on loyalty to the pledge class and to the name, like SEALS or Marines. SEALS don’t all know each other, but they all respect the badge. Solid brotherhood, just different.
Beta Theta Pi focuses on academics and activities. Good guys, well liked, like the cast of the Big Bang Theory. The Betas are very unified in their brotherhood because they have very clear focus. Solid brotherhood. Probably will be the last fraternity to get kicked off.
Sigma Phi Epsilon is hard to figure. I know they’re a solid brotherhood but they make a point of not being a traditional fraternity. Quality members but they’re organized more like a Scout Troop. No pledging; once you accept a bid you’re a brother, then you spend your college years earning advancement through the ranks.
On the subject of true fraternal brotherhood, I think Black fraternities must be what white fraternities looked like back in the beginning. Black fraternity chapters at FSU are small, highly selective, hard to join and even harder to get initiated. And I don’t think any of the big ‘white’ fraternities can compare to the lifelong loyalty and brotherhood of Alpha Phi Alpha, the Omegas, and others.
Just random thoughts from a brand new alum.

Dude has no idea what he’s talking about. Pike does not have a strong sense of brotherhood at all, probably the least and that’s something a pike will tell u. Tke is not “deliberately” small, no one wants to join. KA I guess? But it’s not really brotherhood, it’s more just getting 100 of the same guy . As well as for sig ep.... jeez I’m not even gonna go there. Whoever made this is an idiot

Pike doesn’t have a strong brotherhood they are known for getting into fights without knowing they are brothers
