pnms be open minded

by: W

during pref, give all 3 houses a CHANCE! Just cause it wasn't your top house or "the top house", you'll end up there for a reason and you'll be lucky to just be a part of the amazing Panhellenic community in general :)

-a girl who had no desire to be at the "middle tier" house she got on bid day as a PNM and is now obsessed with her sorority

Ladies this is a pointless argument,
Sororities are just social clubs
Don't over think this
Keep it in perspective

To [Umm]: Thank you for the excellent in-depth advice (sarcasm in case you couldn't tell). I would expect nothing else from someone with the nickname of "Umm".

I'm so darn sorry you were so hurt by the process that (even after your left the Greek system) you would come on this site to say awful things on Pref Day. That truly is heartbreaking. Whether a young woman chooses Greek Life, or not, it is up to them. They can still ROCK their time at FSU, in a myriad of ways, regardless of whether they choose to "go Greek". The "involvement opportunities" of Florida State are endless. If they chose to go Greek, PNMs should focus on the sisterhood and the incredible involvement that comes with it. IF you give these amazing Chapters an opportunity, you will see that EACH ONE shines in their own unique way and that they do so much good for the community. That's it...Go NOLES! Wish you the best "Realist"!!

It looks like realist wasn't hurt by the process that she actually enjoyed it in her time, just presenting other ways to have fun if the feelings don't go both ways.

And really, are you seriously "heartbroken" over these comments?"

Time to thicken that skin up girly!

Heartbroken are the PNMs that put their heart and soul into this, and then find true disappointment all the way through bid day.

I'm a guy. In a good fraternity. I'd say from what I've seen nearly all the girls in all the sororities seem pretty happy with their groups. The only time you hear much about tiers is during rush. Leave these girls alone. They want what you wanted, and maybe they'll do a better job of finding it than you did.

"I'm a Guy", I think you missed the point that REALIST was making. It looks like REALIST was in a sorority and enjoyed the experience, but is stating that if you are a woman going through Rush, that it is OK that you decide that you do not have to go through the process.

I see the point being made -- NPC calls it Mutual Selection. Judging by the two different words, Mutual and Selection, both parties have to agree to continue moving forward in the process. I know factually that girls will get their lowest selections (14, 15, 16, 17) back on their list. How is this Mutual Selection?

The TRUTH is that Greek life is a fit for some but not for all. So stop trying to convince someone that the only option is to give it a chance; that spending $5k - $7k per year is a wise decision when you have clearly decided that there is not a "fit."

Just go join one or more of the other hundreds of inclusive clubs that are offered by our beautiful school.

The only reason they do rush this way is to penalize the stronger chapters for being good!
It really is bs
You should have to visit all maybe 1 or 2 times then only the ones you want. If u don't get in then you don't

by: Hey J

Would you accept a bid from your 14th pick? How about your 15th? 16th? 17th? If so, then I say Wow! You really are desperate.

People will make comparisons every day in order to put things in perspective. Not all situations are equivalent, but it helps to offer a different way to view a situation.

2000+ girls will go through Rush. 1500 will accept a bid. 30% of those will not continue with sisterhood through their senior year (approximately 450).

That leaves us with 1050, approximately 50% of those that started as PNM.

50% success rate -- sounds like marriage.
