Thoughts from a former GChi

by: Stella

I was a GChi a few years back. I have since graduated (all of my PNMs have as well) and randomly decided to checkout Greek Rank as my fyp has been all rush videos haha. Here are some thoughts I wanted to share from my time as a Gchi...
1. First of all my GChi was wonderful. I struggled through recruitment and she put a lot of time into talking through the process with me and helping to ease my anxiety. No one in my group had any idea what house she was in (she was a zeta). Couldn't have asked for a better Gamma Chi for myself.
2. At this time we all knew how our girls ranked the chapters; I was surprised to see this is no longer the case! At the end of the day we would meet up with our girls and put their rankings into our laptops. Some were very decisive and didn't require much of a convo. Others wanted to talk through things a bit. Not once did I push a PNM towards my sorority. I wanted them to be where they would be the happiest and most fulfilled. If they were unsure we would discuss their experience at each party and I would help them weigh pros and cons.
3. I was fully impartial. At one point my girls were guessing what chapter I was in and they guessed all across the board (PS I was an ADPi ;)).
4. I did not communicate with any active greek life members during my time as a gamma chi, nor did they try to communicate with me. AT. ALL.
5. One of my roomies was in a top house and was rude to me throughout our whole time together. Would do anything possible to avoid carpooling with me. Other roommate was in a sorority with a poor reputation at the time and snuck out nearly every night to stay with her boyfriend. Can't remember what chapter roomie #3 was in although she was pleasant. I'm not opposed to naming their specific chapters if people are interested lol.
6. The gamma chis from "top tier" houses tended to be rude and condescending to the other gamma chis.
7. I don't quite remember how many girls were in my group...I wanna say 12-15? 1 dropped during recruitment, all others ended up at a house on bid day. 2 of them ended up in my chapter. There were 10 chapters at the time.
8. I was honored to guide this group of lovely, beautiful, intelligent girls through this experience. I have kept up with some of them on social media and love seeing all that they accomplished as a part of greek life, during their time at UArk, and in life post-grad.
Feel free to ask questions if interested! As someone no longer at the university, I am happy to be liberal with my answers!

Chi O was the rude roomie. Slept with bf roomie was a Phi Mu. And now that I think of it I believe roommate #3 was also a Phi Mu…but like I said very pleasant and sweet girl.

Can the Gamma Chis really be trusted not to talk? It sounds like you were a great one but I've heard some communicate with their chapters and are talking. Do you think that's true?

Some do some don’t. And some would make it apparent to their group which house they were in.
