Comment: I went in for the first round of rush, and the first thing the girl said to me was, “If you don’t want to be here, that’s okay—you can tell me.” I had just met her three seconds ago, and she was already saying that. Then she told a story about how when she rushed, she knew she wanted to go here and just told every other sorority she was going to this one, so she was able to just chat with them during the rounds. It was a really cute story, and she said she’d be happy wherever I ended up. I don’t think she meant to come off rude, but it kind of did. I just responded that I have a very open mind and just want to find my home. After that conversation, I knew it wasn’t the right place. Then the second girl I talked to barely said anything—she was kind of just staring at the table. I’m not sure if she was nervous or just didn’t like me. I was the one keeping the conversation going and felt like I was trying to recruit her. After that round, I went to the bathroom and completely broke down because I felt like there was something wrong with me. After talking to a few girls, I learned that they all had similar experiences, where some girls there were kind of socially awkward.
