I don't know where folks get off just stating that AGD and Kappa had "great pledge classes." Those pledge classes definately have some quality, but they also have a lot of wastes of space from the high school cliques that have the right connections, were not even truly involved in leadership or charity in HS, not academically oriented, did not play a varsity sport, did not stand out in any way -- but instead were just sort of (self-styled) "popular" for no apparent reason. So I don't think you can just make blanket statements like that.
