My family has been in Alabama since 1826 and has I don't know how many generations of UA graduates. I am in what has been called an "old row" sorority. This whole thread makes me sad. It's like people from our state will never progress unless we are open to meeting new people and exchanging new ideas. And yet so many are seemingly stuck somewhere in the past. I just don't get it. I do lots of things with my sorority but I also branch out to get to know people in my major and in the activities where I volunteer. @John Goodepype, that's where you're going to find quality. It's not quality to be reclusive and only mix with people you've known since you were babies. Grow a backbone and open your eyes. Quality exists everywhere. Be self-confident enough to recognize it even if it's not wearing your letters.
