I was in almost the same boat as you. I didn't get a bid my first year but all my friends did. They all hung out with their sisters & I felt like I had no friends. It was really lonely & depressing. To the girl who just said "go out of your way to make friends" that's easier said then done. I joined clubs but people never wanted to hang out outside of the club. Most the people in my clubs were Greek too so after club meetings they'd just go hang out with chapter members. I felt so excluded. I ended up getting a bid the next year. Go through COB!
