More Southern juniors and seniors stay in OR not necessarily because they are happy; they stay because of the social pressure among Southern girls and their moms, grandmas, and friends. If they drop, everyone in their social circle and hometown (where they will likely return after college) will freak out on them. They would basically lose all their friends in the house if they drop and would have to deal with crap at home too. NR girls who are not from the South are don’t have the same mindset and don’t count on their sorority status meaning anything in the real world after college. It gives them more freedom to make choices that are right for them. The recent survey revealing the level of happiness among AGD seniors is pretty indicative of how seniors in OR who stay feel. Many, many stay to avoid social isolation. None of the AGD sisters that were friends of the girl that got kicked out had her back because they couldn’t- they’d threaten their own good standing in the house if they did. I know a PM that dropped and her house told other girls she wasn’t even allowed to visit them or be in the house (her friends in the house lived there) and they were encouraged to not associate with her anymore. High retention does NOT mean happier junior and seniors. We aren’t buying what you’re selling.
