Their alumnae give them tons of support and have a huge emotional investment in helping them stay open. One of their charter members went on to serve as SDT's national president and holds a place of honor and respect in the organization. (One of their most prestigious undergraduate awards is named in her memory.) I think their national would prefer it if they could compete on equal footing with the other houses, but starting from scratch would be a huge undertaking, both in terms of money and PR, not to mention they would get tons of backlash from the alumnae.
