As a PNM, you’re still in high school, you’re still under the care of your parents, and maybe you’re still underage, so why would you be going to a bar. As an active, they’re living as adults, some are completely financially independent, they don’t live under the guise of someone else, and they have already been accepted by the sorority so they are free to make their own decisions within reason. Posting about politics in groupmes or on tik tok is taboo, IMO, no matter if it’s an active or the PNM. Most sororities monitor active members social media, but its a free country so members are allowed to post whatever they want. However, once again, they’ve already been accepted by the sorority and don’t have to prove themselves. Posting about politics as a PNM is risky for several reasons, but perhaps the main reason is this: sororities have to make decisions based on something, even if it’s minuscule. If they have to decide between two PNMs, one who posts about controversial topics and is constantly in hot water on social media that could potentially backfire on them, and another who doesn’t engage as much, they’re going to pick the less risky. They don’t want someone to represent them who has a history of getting in hot water because it could come back to haunt them. A lot of the time, actives weren’t acting like this as PNMs so the chapters weren’t aware ahead of time and now they are stuck with them. I hope this helps!
