The answer to your question is as follows: Jefferson houses are the struggling houses, they don't have the money to build a big house on University or the alumni backing. Jefferson houses were once cool decades ago, but they lived off reputation for too long and not try to make themselves more appealing or desirable. yes, houses like Delta Chi and Kappa Sigma have great reputations but sadly did not try to improve themselves. The other traditional Jefferson houses like Chi Phi, DTD and Lambda Chi are a joke now. They relied on university row rejects way too long and slowly dying. Basically the Jefferson houses are slowly dying from a 1000 paper cuts and no better than the off campus houses. Basically if you can't get University Fraternities than your fail safe is one of the Jefferson houses in order just to say you are greek. That is not to say some of the University houses such as Sig Ep and Beta are good, though the rest are very good.
