Crazy conservatives like to point at UA and go "look! The student body is becoming Greek and goes to church! The young are becoming traditional!" When in reality it's Alabama, where spite sets the rules, and "tradition" is slowly being made more and more palatable, rather than going away entirely (for now). What was true of millenials in the North will likely be true of Zoomers in the South. Students aren't becoming hard-line Episcopals, Lutherans, Catholics, or staunch Baptists, they're becoming wishy-washy. They attend evangelical "non-denominational" churches that offer easy salvation and guiltless sermons, with lessened relations with clergy (Highlands anyone?), to check a perceived box in their lives and avoid the realities of a religious life. Greek life is another one of those boxes. It's a key to social activity and a sense of belonging. Eventually, when the social view shifts, that sense of belonging or necessity will fade. The cards of time have been dealt, Greek life will evolve or die in the future. (I am a UA Greek alumni)
