You can go with a bunch of anonymous people if you want to, on a site known for being trolled by haters and posers who think it's fun to mess with people. OR you can go to UA's Panhellenic website where there's wayyyyy too much info about recs to say they don't matter. If a Panhellenic site gives something it's own section full of info, don't think someone took the time for no reason. Everything on that site points to getting recs yourself, so play it safe and cover your bases. A lot of the girls you'll be rushing with have. If someone says they had no recs but got a house that requires them, one of two things probably happened. She's either just so fabulous that they decided she was worth the time to find a rec for, or she already had a rec sent in and didn't know it. A lot of PNMs register with alumnae groups, but don't hear anything back and assume nobody did a rec. As it turns out, someone did and the PNM didn't know it. As for sororities finding recs for girls who don't have them, they will if they want to. But in a recruitment full of amazing, top quality girls who DO have recs, they'll need to be in love with Miss No Rec. If a PNM thinks she can be the super special one who shines above tons of girls with credentials as good or better than hers, she can go for it. I wouldn't try it because these huge recruitments are so competitive and unpredictable. Best not to assume anything until you have a bid in your hand. Just get the recs.
