Pi Phi was never really Pi Phi at Wake. The school didn't open up to NPCs until the late '80s/early '90s, but before that they had local non-GLO sororities called "societies" that started in the '40s. Most of the NPCs absorbed the old societies, but the society that went to Pi Phi (the Strings) basically kept operating as they always did and they never had much allegiance to national. When they lost their charter, KBG was just another convenient front for them to keep operating the way they always did. They're relevant in that guys like them, but nobody respects them.
