Colonies usually LOOOVE accomplished upperclassmen who for whatever reason never went through rush before or didn’t pledge. They want to establish with a good reputation and need strong leaders so juniors and even seniors who are involved with the more prestigious campus orgs will be sought after. They will likely also give preference to legacies who are well qualified since that might mean more family support / financial support for the new colony. Being in a colony is not for the faint of heart. You are starting a chapter with no traditions (of course SK has traditions but not the special existing house trads), no big sis (you’ll get a “twin”), no house, no reputation, no nothing - and it’s up to you and your sisters (99% of whom will be complete strangers) to come together and make a sisterhood. You are starting, not joining. This is not a negative, just need to have the mindset that it is a lot of work and they need passionate women who are on a mission! But can be incredibly rewarding to be part of this special group. Just know you likely won’t see the fruits of your labor until long after you’ve graduated.
