The OP did not say that the girls "chose" where they ultimately "went." It's not rare for a girl to have one strongly desired house at Pref and the other choices be more average. When I went through I had a lower/mid OR house that I had totally fallen in love with that I ranked #1 at pref and a respectable but what I thought kind of boring and average NR house that I ended up with. Of course I could not be happier now, but it stung at the time, and this experience is not uncommon.
