it's definitely not weird for a colonizing chapter to recruit this way. I've seen chapters to it three ways: 1. the way SK is doing it now: give PNMs a taste of what their sorority is like nationally, then allow girls to see what the other houses have to offer, and if they drop out of recruitment for any reason or hadn't decided to go through recruitment in the first place, they can pursue SK afterwards. Panhel usually puts a moratorium on COB during the time a colonizing chapter will recruit, so SK has more PNMs to pick from. At a school like Alabama, option 1 is the best way to do it since you get more eyes from PNMs interested in Greek life. 2. They come later in the semester and don't participate in the IWT/Open house round of recruitment. There's usually more info sessions or open events, and a longer moratorium on COB. 3. They come second semester and there's a moratorium on COB during the spring. There's usually some degree of tabling and asking actives in other chapters to refer girls who aren't affiliated. By participating in the first round, they're demonstrating to PNMs who may not understand colonization that they will soon operate as a fully functioning member of Alabama Panhel instead of being some weird new chapter doing their own thing. I helped colonize my own sorority at a campus last year that was much smaller overall and with a much less intense greek system, so we had more liberty to do recruitment our own way, but since Alabama has so much emphasis on tradition, it's great for their nationals to see how we do it and be able to teach the new girls they get how to recruit the Alabama way.
