People say "the computer messed up" for three reasons: PNM's (or their moms) try to use it as an excuse for their getting cut; actives (or alums) try to use it as an excuse when they are confronted by PNM's (or their moms) about why their house cut someone; some PNM's, and their moms, and actives, and alums don't understand how the selection process actually works so they just blame 'the computer' for outcomes that don't fit their expectations.
