There's A LOT of things to consider when we talk about SK's future. First of all, this rush is going to be different. We have a sorority re-colonizing. But we also have a sorority who's on the rocks after a huge scandal that made headlines across the nation. Now, I bring up Alpha Phi because I think how they rush is going to affect SK directly. Alpha Phi is half the size the were and they NEED to grow fast. They basically have to take an extremely large pledge class. On top of that, they probably won't be as highly sought after as they usually are. They have an ideal type of PNM but that PNM may be more partial to ZTA, PBP, maybe even DG or Gamma Phi due to Alpha Phi's scandals. So what does that mean? It means Alpha Phi won't be able to be as selective as they usually are in terms of appearances and personalities. They may be left with a giant pledge class, a quarter of them being girls Alpha Phi wouldn't have traditionally gone for. So why does that matter to Sigma Kappa? PNMs who once wouldn't have been considered by Alpha Phi now are and I'd say most PNMs would prefer to be in an established house as opposed to be a founding member of a house that could literally fail in the next handful of years. So Alpha Phi may take PNMs who otherwise would've seriously considered SK. And to make things worse for SK (and Alpha Phi), the amount of girls signed up for rush is significantly lower than it has been in past years. If split equally, each house should have around 125 girls after you take into consideration the amount of girls who drop/are dropped. I think SK will have to work extremely hard to curate a decent pledge class. And if I'm being 100% honest, a lot of actives don't want a new sorority. A lot of actives would prefer lower quotas which allows houses to be more selective. Are some people excited that there's a new house? Yeah, but I wouldn't say it's the majority. Best of luck to everyone though!
