There are plenty of southerners who live like you described, they’re just much less flashy so obviously they stand out less than the people who throw their money around. For example I just found out one of my sisters’ dads (from the south) is an exec of a major Fortune 500 company but I never would have known if someone hadn’t told me. She lives like any middle class person. Unrelated to your comment but I’m from Texas and people think spending here is bad— it’s NOTHING compared to what goes on at UT. Oh my God it’s unreal. It’s like the same attitude, but with more money to back it up.
