Extra recs: from the Panhellenic website: "While it is common to send multiple Recommendations/References to one sorority from separate alumnae; it is unnecessary to exceed more than two. Please use personal discretion when deciding on how many Recommendations/References will be sent on your behalf." Extras say "desperate" and load sororities with more paperwork. About recs only to sororities you're interested in: dangerous! Top interests might cut you, (even if you have friends inside) but there's other great chapters. You don't know anyone, though, and didn't get recs. Could be bad. From site: "While Recommendations/References are not mandatory for every sorority, it is important to realize that some chapters may have policies that require PNM’s to have at least one Recommendation/Reference on the sororities official recommendation form in order to be eligible for membership." Do you know which ones require this? Play safe: recs to every chapter, because if favorites drop you, you'll want to find new ones, and open minded PNMs can. Legacies don't need recs: never, EVER heard that one. Most want glowing recs. Why? Legacies are everywhere, hon, and lots get dropped. And the houses might be ones that require recs. Can't hurt if a legacy connection also sends a Legacy Introduction Form, downloadable from nationals. Who says all recs are from random alums? Many know the PNM very well. Really trying to help, but if you don't get open minded, it could be a hard week for you.
