Unlike freshman quota, houses are not and have never been required to meet upperclassman quota. It’s there so that the houses don’t have to feel like they are sacrificing a freshman bid to take a sophomore. Many sophomores who get bids have made a lot of friends in a specific house and are likely going to get a bid whether there is an upperclassman quota or not. (Also, some houses don’t take upperclassmen anyway.) Will there probably be a few who fall through the cracks? Yes, but they probably didn’t do the work this past year to make serious connections and great grades. I don’t think this is something to be upset over. In all honestly it will probably help the lower houses because of the trickle down effect.
