Honestly whether or not it has to do with SK, Panhellenic trying to discourage girls with low gpas from rushing is a good thing in my eyes. I want to preface this by saying I have friends who had low high school gpas but are very successful and involved here at Alabama, but ~generally~ girls with very low high school GPAs will probably not have great college GPAs. I don’t think it’s fair to houses to have to take girls with lower GPAs than they would like because quota is so high and houses closer to the bottom do not have as much flexibility in who they’d like to cut, meaning they have to decide if they’ll take grade risks who are fun/ cute (Aphi, GPhi, DZ) or girls with better grades who might not excel in social skills or looks (Theta, DG, AOPi). If less low GPA girls rush it helps houses with lower GPAs and Panhellenic’s average GPA overall
