Kappa, DDD, XO, and KD (specifically in state) have so many legacies in the South and nationwide that being an upper-middle legacy can be somewhat of a curse. Well connected girls with good grades who are A+++ PNMs can have their choice of house pretty much, no matter their legacy status. But for a lot of competitive houses, if they see that you have a legacy to a popular house and you yourself are a somewhat strong PNM (maybe you have grades, activities, and looks but not connections) they assume you would choose your legacy house when it comes down to it and they will drop your early on. I knew a XO legacy who went to a prestigious private school (unfortunately for her not in Mississippi), had good grades, but was a bit on the chubbier side and got dropped. Sort of similar situation with a lot of the sororities I meantioned up there. If you have an in house sister then you are really screwed.
