Except very few girls can be absolutely positive that they are going to XYZ because they are a legacy or know people. I'm in an old row house, and while legacy status and who you know is a HUGE help for girls (and in-state obviously has a HUGE advantage), you have to know the right people, and legacy status doesn't hold the weight it used to. We get so many legacies, we couldn't possibly bid them all. Not to mention that in my house, we don't care how many family members were in ABC. If your grades suck or you have a bad reputation, you still won't get a bid. Totally agree that some Alabama girls grow up thinking that XYZ is the only option. That's why some drop if they didn't get invited back to whatever house they believe is their only option. I guess being a GDI is better than not being an XYZ to some people.
