I'm the OP and sorry you are suspicious. Im from the Midwest. I had good grades, a good resume, can make conversations easily, (think I'm attractive too, LOL) and had family and friends of the family send recs - kind of randomly as I didn't know the reputations of houses but if they were alumn from a chapter at Bama had them send a rec. For what it's worth, my roomate (who matched on line) showed up completely "blind" - no recs, etc. And while I knew that recruitment was going to be intense, I really didn't know the details. Honestly, I didn't even really know all the Greek letters, and had to take notes to keep the houses straight - particularly early on. If you recall that was a rough year with rain and delays - computer issues too. I got to pref with two solid old row houses and one top of NR and got the house I had me eye on. I do feel very fortunate! As you may expect , I did get dropped early by the what I would call two of the three most traditional "southern" houses, but one kept me for a surprising long time ( although they weren't my favorite). The two OR at pref were the ones most would say are most open to OOS. And my card did include houses I rated low until pref, one of which just wouldn't "drop" until pref and one that was my legacy - my Mom went to a different school. I came on here not to "prove" this happened but to note I was surprised by the deep cuts around me- and note that exposing such caused resentments. Your comment suggests it "still is". It really doesn't matter now, but offering advice to pnms to be prepared, either way. Panlove. \n\n\n\n\n
