As an active, I can honestly say that not many other actives are genuinely excited to have to welcome a new sorority. Houses here want stricter regulations on who is qualified to rush as well as more control over who they can drop. As of right now, Panhellenic allows any girl who has committed to UA to rush. The only form of "discouragement" seen from Panhellenic is when they say girls with under a 3.0 "may not" get as many returns as someone with a higher GPA. This hurts houses because it perpetuates the idea that everyone who rushes "should" end up in a house and leaves very, very little room for houses to make their own decisions over PNMs... When Panhellenic is telling you that X amount of girls are rushing and 95% of them need to be given a bid it literally leaves houses, especially "lower ranked" houses, at a huge disadvantage. And circling back to the GPA thing, because Panhellenic doesn't have a grade cut off it forces houses to take grade risks which really hurts houses. I could go on and on about how a low bid match rate would benefit this Greek community but I'll keep it short. The point is that houses here face a big disadvantage in various aspects because Panhellenic wants to maintain the idea that "everyone finds a home." Instead of investing millions by bringing in a new sorority because the ones here are bursting at the seams, why not at least TRY lowering the bid match rate.
