The thing is though, this isn’t true. This “Alabama grad” who recruits for their company is a little out of touch which is very unfortunate. Of course UA isn’t the most prestigious of universities and some companies do not recruit here, that is the truth. But this person clearly doesn’t know that several people were hired for Goldman analyst positions (so, not sales) out of culverhouse this year, and at least one went to JPM and more than a few went to companies like EY and PWC. One also went to Google (could have also been Amazon, don’t remember). Accounting, OM, and MIS are sending students to the same companies as Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt grads, and those are just a few majors in the business school. Honestly, it will be a never ending cycle with these people. First they say UA grads don’t get hired at XY company. Then when they find out they do, the jobs aren’t prestigious enough. Then when you tell them a UA grad was in fact hired for that prestigious job, well, it’s just one person so they are the exception 🙄🙄 A handful of great UA alumni who are killing it will lead to more and more especially as the quality of students and programs continues to improve. Also, handshake has almost zero to do with the opportunities that are actually available, kids, so don’t worry. Apply for whatever tf you want.
