She did not get lucky. She just clicked with the actives when she went through and they must have been impressed with her personality, her activities and her potential to fit and everything like that. XO did not have the best rush for them because they lost out in the end on some of their top girls but they are super solid and a down year for them is still great. So, for your friend, I would bet money that she was not on the "first list" and probably down somewhere on the second. XO certainly had to dip down in their rankings to fill their class on bid day. Also, this goes to show that it is fake news to accept the premise that OOS (even far OOS) do not have a chance at a top tier sorority. There is no question that the top houses, including the old row houses, have made the change and are filled with many OOS and far OOS (which I notice some on here call OOR, for "out of region").
